Who wouldn’t love to visit a place filled with natural beauty and stories? Purulia, 300 kms away from Kolkata, would make an ideal weekend trip. The village Charida in Purulia is home to Chau mask makers who make exquisite masks using locally available materials. The tourists can interact with the artists, visit their workshops and shops, visit the community museum and learn about the history and evolution of Chau masks. One can also visit Maldi to see the resource centre amidst the greenery and learn a step or two of Chau from the gurus. The artists also organize an annual festival to celebrate the tradition.
